Can I Change Counties in the Middle of a Case? Lee Borden
Q.
If there is an ongoing case at a court can we change the court to the county we live in? We moved to a different county and so did the other party and it is a long travel for hearings.

In most states, the answer would be no, not without the consent of the other party and the court. The court's consent is usually easy, because most judges are glad to get cases off their docket. You know better than we how easy it would be to get the other party's consent. If you can't though, the case is likely to stay right where it is. And you can sort of understand why. If not, people would be routinely moving cases around just because they didn't care for the judge or one of the judge's rulings. It would interfere with the efficiency of the court system.
