Is there a way to get out of spousal support?

Additional Details:
My mother passed away recently and my brother and I were suppose to each get xxx amount of money.
Now I am currently paying spousal support for the past 6 years and since I still owe money Friend of
the Court will not allow me to collect any money from my mothers life insurance and it will go to my
ex wife. Is there anyway I can get this money and if not what are my options to getting out of
spousal support? My ex wife does not work and sits around all day and lives off my pay check. It was
annoying enough to be paying her while she didn''t do anything the past 6 years but now that they
are taking my money from my mothers passing is the last straw. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. Thank You

If you have any arrearages, the inheritance could be used to pay those off, but the court will not consider that as income to you for purposes of increased spousal support, if I understand your question correctly. That money would be considered your separate property. Only the interest on the money could be considered income. If I did not understand your question correctly, please call for more information.
