Although in this day of modern technology where communication is instant and low-cost, consideration could be given to the possible long distance fees for calls, faxes, and overnight shipping charges to and from your law firm. If you are using a local firm, you will benefit by saving some money, although the amount may be negligible. It could, however, be considerable.

Another benefit to using a local law firm is that you will have a better opportunity to meet with an attorney personally, whether it is in the process of choosing your attorney or in the legal process at hand. Although it may not be necessary to do so, developing a certain degree of rapport with your lawyer could give you added comfort and confidence. This might be especially helpful if your case spans a long period of time.

Using a local law firm may be much more convenient for any witnesses or family members from whom a deposition is required. Shorter travel time and fewer expenses will be a big benefit to everyone involved. Sometimes this factor influences the length of time spent pursuing in the preparation stage of your case, thus reducing your possible stress.

Finally, using a local firm may mean that your attorney is more familiar with local judges. It might also be better to use a local firm because you will be able to get referrals and feedback from friends or relatives who may have also used and been satisfied with the services of that firm in the past. And lastly, benefits of using a local firm can just be that you are supporting a local business. Many attorneys are involved members of the community and spend a lot of time and money, supporting good local causes so your use of a local law firm benefits your community.
